Literary Theory SOW

Great SOW designed as an interlude for KS3 Year 9s. The rationale behind this unit was to create a series of lessons which introduce pupils to the schools of thought used in literary criticism and covers the basics of Feminism, Marxism and Psychoanalysis. There is no expectation that you should complete all three, instead, choose to spend as long or as little time on each school of thought depending on the needs, abilities and interests of your class. In the long term, this unit would complement pupils when they begin their study of GCSE Literature texts and lays the foundations for literary criticism at GCSE and A-Level. The aim is for pupils to have the knowledge required to view their GCSE texts from each of these different lenses in the hope of deriving new, perceptive and interesting interpretations of the prose, poetry and drama they encounter at KS4.

Nice little starter PPT wherby students read extracts and complete a different activity on every day of the week. There is a stretch and challenge for each activity. Feel free to cover some of the text or print it out so that it is not too overwhelming for students with needs.
